TRM News UPDATE 85 Favorite quotes from the children this month: Grady’s Mom told him that what she wanted for Christmas was a healthy family. Grady replied, “I’ve asked Santa for a patient Mom!” Tucker threw a Lego across the room. Nell went over to tell him not throw things. About a minute later Tucker came up to Nell and said, “Would you not look my way anymore?” I think Tucker had some more Lego’s he wanted to throw! Gavin is two. I asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up. He said that to be a ring bearer because you get a really cool costume! I was in 3 year old classroom. I noticed that there were no girls in the class. There were only all boys! (You might want to pray for that teacher!) I asked the boys, “What happened to the girls?” They dis-a- peed! (He meant to say disappeared!) Tiffanie is a semester missionary from TX. She was asking the preschoolers to teach her about snow. One of the kids said that the snow isn’t so much fun when it gets too deep to play in. Harkin replied, “It’s not hard. You just put tennis rackets on your feet and you can go anywhere.” (An explanation: When the snow gets deep, people often put snow shoes on to walk in the snow. To a four year old snow shoes look like tennis rackets. Now that I think about it, they are the shape of tennis rackets!) Favorite things I’ve seen God do this month:It has been an interesting winter. It’s January and until yesterday I could see the ground at my house. This is not normal. Last year we were sledding off my roof in January because the snow was so high. This year there are signs up telling us of high fire danger because it is so dry. It rained all day yesterday but today we have 3-4 inches of snow on the ground and it is still snowing. We covet your prayers for snow. One of our ski areas isn’t even open and others are open but just barely. At many of our ski areas we have moved the church services to different locations. The ski areas are hurting for skiers and it is affecting our local economy and ski ministry. When you can pull into a ski area on a holiday weekend and get a parking place right up front, you know things are not right. The first Sunday of ski ministry at Diamond Peak ski area the chaplains were riding up the ski chair lift and they saw mountain bikers riding beneath them in the dirt. I’ve been checking on our contacts at the ski areas and providing encouragement to them as well as to our community members. One of the God moments for me this past month has been Squaw Valley ski area. They haven’t been the most enthusiastic about church services on the mountain but they allowed them. This month they called me and asked us to have the Christmas Day and New Year’s Day services at a different location because the place where the cross is located is closed due to lack of snow. They also wanted to publicize the services for us. This is God thing for sure! Since then then have allowed us to move the service to yet another location and put up other signs. If that weren’t enough, they made 7 new signs for us. Thank you Lord! Two of our summer missionaries from last summer have started Parents’ Night Out in two churches in MS. We rejoice that they saw PNO here and wanted to tell children and parents in their communities about Jesus through this type of outreach. Cristin is one of our new semester missionaries. One of the kindergarteners said to her, “You are the coolest teacher ever!” She asked them, “Why do you think that?” They replied, “Because you love us!” It is so wonderful that this child knew they were loved by Cristin. The Bible says that “All men will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” We pray that the children and their families will see Jesus clearly through our words and actions. One of the parents came into the office this month and told us that she is still Facebook friends with one of our missionaries who served here several years ago. She said how encouraging it is because this student continues to talk with her about Jesus. Jessica said, “There isn’t much of a church background for many of the families in Tahoe. Most of our children only hear about God and Bible truths at our children’s ministries.” One of the kindergarteners was sitting completing their homework with Jessica. The child looked up and said, “I know why kids should come to A+. It’s because you get to learn about God here and God likes it when we obey our teachers.” It is incredible to see what a 5 year old can grasp. God is at work in the lives of these children and their families! Prayer Requests
