Becoming A Semester Missionary or Innovator

Job Description for Semester Missionaries & Innovators
The primary responsibility would be to work with our A+ Before and After School ministry (school age children) and our A+ Preschool ministry (3 and 4 year olds). This involves teaching children ages 3-12. The student would lead Bible stories, school activities, music, crafts, learning centers, games, and do tutoring. The student must love children and be able to work as a team. We like education majors but it is not necessary that you have an education degree. (At least four people each semester must have a degree in elementary education or early childhood education.) If you love children and are teachable, you will do well here. We can teach you the needed skills. You will tutor the children and help them with their homework. You must be able to read, spell, and do math at a 6th grade level in order to help the children. We need people who are leaders and who are people of character and depth. We have high standards here. We believe that God deserves our very best. We need students who are extroverted, outgoing, relationship oriented, energetic, hard working, and organized. You must not be afraid of hard work and long hours. This ministry also requires daily cleaning of the building and snow shoveling.

You will be investing yourself into the lives of the children and families of this community. You will give yourself away to the high glory of God. The church, the community, and the staff will invest their hearts and lives in you. We seek to train you to be the leaders of the future. You will learn communication skills, dealing with other personality types, conflict resolution skills, organizational skills, and ministry skills.

Youth Ministry
Youth ministry is another opportunity for ministry. This would require some of the students (1-2) to work with 6th-12th graders and lead meetings on Wednesday evenings.

Ski Ministry
Ski ministry will be another area of ministry. (Spring Semester only) Students would lead worship services on the ski slopes on Sunday afternoons. You do not need to already know how to ski to do this ministry. We will teach you to ski, teach you how to lead a service, and we will provide the necessary clothing and equipment.

My Mother's Morning Out
My Mother’s Morning Out is a ministry to preschool children held on Tuesday mornings from 9:00-noon.

Parents' Out
Parents' Night Out is a once a month ministry to children ages birth through 12. This ministry is held the first Friday night of each month from 6:00-10:00 p.m. Students would lead Bible stories, games, crafts, etc.

Ministries At The Schools
On Wednesday mornings we volunteer in the classrooms at Tahoe Lake School.

What's the difference between Semester Missionaries and Innovators?
Semester Missionaries: Are appointed by the North American Mission Board (NAMB). NAMB provides the students with a $270 a month stipend, health insurance, and transportation to and from the field. The local field provides housing, food, and local transportation. Semester missionaries work full time in the mission field. You must be a member of a Southern Baptist church to be appointed as a semester missionary.

Innovators: Commit to 20 hours a week to work in ministry here. You would also get a part time job in the community. We will help you find a job. We will provide housing. You must provide transportation to and from the field as well as provide your own local transportation. You may take the bus or walk if you don't have a car. If you have a decent car, we would encourage you to bring it to the field. NAMB provides limited health insurance for innovators. We will provide your food money. The advantage to the innovator program is that since you have low overhead you can use most of the money you earn to begin tackling those college loans! An application to NAMB is required to get the health insurance. If you don't care about the insurance, are still covered by your parents' policy, or don't care about insurance, this position could also be open to non-Baptist students. You would apply directly to the local field.
